Small Business of the Year
Wishes Under Wrap
Wishes Under Wrap has been a member of the North Central Chamber of Commerce since 1994. Laurie Langford, Owner, started her business 16 years ago and has watched it evolve, adding new rooms to her business every year. Wishes Under Wrap offers gift items for all occasions; in addition to the many wonderful custom gift baskets they make to order. Wishes Under Wrap now offers party planning, including but not limited to party invitations and party/wedding favors*. Laurie and her family have always been very active in the community; including fundraising for children diagnosed with cancer, specifically the Make a Wish Foundation. Laurie is also very involved in fundraising for her Church and the North Central Chamber - a long time participant of the Apple Festival. This past year Laurie was thrilled to have won the contract to decorate the Twin River Casino for the Christmas holiday for the next three years. The Casino was beautifully decorated with her custom, colorful holiday trees; a different theme in several locations throughout the Casino. Back in 1997, as a new Chamber member, Wishes Under Wrap was awarded the Rising Star of the Year. Today, we are pleased and honored to present Laurie Langford, Owner of Wishes Under Wrap, with the “2010 Small Business of the Year” Award. Rising Star of the Year
Charming Treasures Nestled in the quaint town of Scituate, RI you will find our 2010 “Rising Star of the Year” – Charming Treasures! Charming Treasures is a unique gift shop and offers “all things charming” – all occasion items, keepsakes, collectibles and jewelry, local artist giftware and much, much, more. Christine Hall, Owner, was proud to announce that she had a “banner year” in 2010! Christine relocated her business to “main street” Scituate less than two years ago, and since then her staff has grown from two employees to fifteen employees. In addition, Charming Treasures participated in several initiatives – Winter Coat Drive, Vera Bradley Bag Exchange, Breast Cancer Foundation and Japan Relief. Charming Treasures surely fits the image for the North Central Chamber of Commerce’s 2010 “Rising Star of the Year”! Community Service of the Year Cherry Hill Manor Cherry Hill Manor must be doing something right! For two consecutive years now Cherry Hill Manor has received the North Central Chamber’s “Community Service Award”! Cherry Hill Manor, located in Johnston, continues to provide their residents with superior nursing care. Residents benefit from easy access to hospital, physicians’ offices and pharmacies to assist in any senior health care emergency. Cherry Hill Manor offers inpatient rehabilitation therapy, a separate sub-acute care unit , and much more to all of their residents. Joanne Clukey, Director of Marketing, continues to keep Cherry Hill Manor very active in the area of community service. In 2010, they participated in “Operation Christmas Child” and sent out over 400 shoe boxes filled with toys. In addition, they adopted 15 children from St. Roberts Bellarmine Church for Christmas. They held multiple drives - Food Drives for local food banks, multiple Bake Sales for RI Red Cross Disaster Relief, Coat and Blanket Drives for local communities, and assisted in fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association through local senior centers. Their staff also fundraised and walked for the Breast Cancer Walk. Cherry Hill Manor works hard to stay linked to the community through their community service efforts.
